EVLG

At the Fourth European Conference of Medical and Health Libraries held in Oslo (Norway) 1994 the establishment of a special Group of Veterinary Libraries was proposed. The European Veterinary Libraries Group will act as a section of the European Association for Health Information and Libraries (EAHIL).

Goals

To unite all those who are interested and or employed in the animal health information field. To develop and encourage cooperation between veterinary medical libraries. To present a forum to exchange ideas and to discuss mutual problems. To maintain the link with other international organizations in the field such as the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) and the World Veterinary Association (WVA).

Means

The EVLG will organize meetings during EAHIL-conferences and will cooperate and organize meetings with other veterinary libraries groups in the world. The EVLG will edit an irregular online newsletter and contribute special veterinary items to the EAHIL-newsletter. The EVLG will extend the E-mail service "Vet-Lib" already started by the U.S.A. sistergroup further through Europe.

History and future

The establishment of this group in the framework of EAHIL is analogous to the situation in the U.S.A. where a Veterinary Libraries Group (VLG) exists inside the Medical Library Association. As a follow-up of the First International Conference of Animal Health Information Specialists, held in Reading (UK) in 1992, it was decided to organize a second international meeting in the future. This conference was held from July 1-4, 1997 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The EVLG has had meetings and veterinary library related sessions on all EAHIL meetings since 1994:
